Norse Wolf Fenrir Necklace!

The Norse Wolf Fenrir was the mightiest of all wolves. Son to Loki & the giantess Angrboda, brother to the Serpent Jormungand & the Death Goddess Hel. Bound by the rope Gleipnir, he waited for revenge against the Aesir Gods until he gained his freedom at Ragnarok, where he defeated & devoured the great God Odin.

Most historical texts see Fenrir and his siblings as villainous figures for their destruction of the order of the nine realms and killing of the Aesir at Ragnarok, however, there is some nuance to his character. Whilst he could not help his immense size, being the son of a half giant (Loki) and full giant (Angrboda) in Jotunheim, he was still fair and trusting of the Aesir, especially Tyr, who adopted him under false pretences, observing his growth and strength. Moreover, his trust led to his binding; he invited the magical ropes and chains as tests of his strength.

His tale has two meanings, one for himself and conversely one for Odin:
Naturally, Fenrir’s lesson is to not trust blindly, know your own strength and why others might fear or envy you.
Additionally, Odin’s lesson is to not attempt to subvert fate, particularly if it involves betrayal.

Symbolism in the Necklace

This Fenrir Wolf Head necklace is a symbol of patience, determination and might, but on the other hand, vengeance, and punishing disloyalty. Thus, primeval wolves taught the Aesir how to hunt, whereas Odin favoured the ravens, giving them the spoils of his victories in exchange for their eyes and ears. Fenrir was taken from Jotunheim to Asgard, to raised by the Aesir, but they bound and abandoned him when Odin foresaw his demise in Fenrir’s jaws. Consequently, Odin’s betrayal and distrust may have sealed the fate he was seeking to avoid. To this end, the unblinking black eyes on the talisman represent observation and patience.

Next, the upside-down rune marking on the forehead is Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, which stands for victory and rebellion. Thor’s hammer talismans were worn around the necks of nordic pagans in rebellion against foreign religions. This beautiful talisman is worn close to the heart and symbolizes both the patience and strength of Fenrir, and the bravery of Thor.

Finally, on the wolf’s snout, an incomplete pagan knot sits. This broken knot harkens to the death of Odin, and the break of his hold over prediction magic, symbolized by Odin’s Knot.
